Non-target-site Mechanisms of Herbicide Resistance – Changes for Weed Management
نویسنده
چکیده
Weed scientists generally have done an excellent job of documenting herbicideresistant weeds. Over 400 unique cases of herbicide resistance, involving over 200 weed species in 65 countries, have been reported (Heap 2014). Oftentimes, evolved resistance in weeds is due to a mutation in a gene encoding the herbicide target site, and weed scientists also have done a good job of identifying these mutations. For example, 132 unique cases of mutations in the acetolactate synthase (ALS) gene are catalogued (Tranel et al. 2014).

Non-target-site herbicide resistance: a family business.
We have witnessed a dramatic increase in the frequency and diversity of herbicide-resistant weed biotypes over the past two decades, which poses a threat to the sustainability of agriculture at both local and global levels. In addition, non-target-site mechanisms of herbicide resistance seem to be increasingly implicated. Non-target-site herbicide resistance normally involves the biochemical mo...

ABSTRACT- A real-time, site-specific, machine-vision based, inter-row patch herbicide application system was developed and evaluated. The image resolution was 640 × 480 pixels covering a total area of 350 mm x 240 mm of a field composed of four quadrants of 350 mm x 60 mm each. The image frames were processed by LabView® and MatLab®. The developed algorithm, based on weed coverage ratio and seg...

Non-target site resistance (NTSR) to herbicides is an increasing concern for weed control. The majority of previous studies have focused on metabolic resistance mechanisms of NTSR, but no research exists on gene regulation mechanisms behind herbicide resistance, such as microRNA (miRNA). Here, we identified 3 American sloughgrass (Beckmannia syzigachne Steud.) populations containing fenoxaprop-...
متن کاملMolecular evolution of herbicide resistance to phytoene desaturase inhibitors in Hydrilla verticillata and its potential use to generate herbicide-resistant crops.
Hydrilla [Hydrilla verticillata (Lf) Royle] is one of the most serious invasive aquatic weed problems in the USA. This plant possesses numerous mechanisms of vegetative reproduction that enable it to spread very rapidly. Management of this weed has been achieved by the systemic treatment of water bodies with the herbicide fluridone. At least three dioecious fluridone-resistant biotypes of hydri...
متن کاملEvolution in action: plants resistant to herbicides.
Modern herbicides make major contributions to global food production by easily removing weeds and substituting for destructive soil cultivation. However, persistent herbicide selection of huge weed numbers across vast areas can result in the rapid evolution of herbicide resistance. Herbicides target specific enzymes, and mutations are selected that confer resistance-endowing amino acid substitu...
